Product Overview

The Avid 13mm Precision Front and Rear Springs Set includes 5 pairs of fronts and 4 pairs of rears that are specifically designed for carpet racing by having stiffer rates and shorter lengths (so you can get to your low ride heights easily). The springs are left raw so the spring rate and action of the spring is not compromised from any extra chemical processes, just like our truly infamous springs that we released in 2013!

Important Notice

  • Our production run's laser etching, which indicates dot allocation, didn't meet Avid's usual standards. While our samples were flawless, the production batch missed the mark. However, the performance is spot-on—you'll likely retire your Core High Response springs for these.
  • Due to the laser marking issue, we're passing the discount along to racers: $10/pair instead of $14, or $8/pair when you buy the full set.
  • To help identify the springs, we’ve included a business card-sized sticker detailing coil counts and dot markings. The only springs that will be tough to tell the difference are the 9 and 11dot front springs because their coils are only separated by 0.1 of a turn. But with 11dot being laser etched with two large dashes and a one small dash, it will be fairly easy tell the difference with the 9dot being 1 large dash and 4 small ones.
  • We opted not to include shrink tubing (often installed incorrectly, changing spring rate) or painted markings (time constraints). So, instead of waiting several months to release these, we figured our customers would rather save some money and have them now.

Features

  • Engineered for carpet racing, Avid springs feature higher spring rates and shortened lengths: 40mm front, 56mm rear, allowing ultra-low ride heights.
  • Front springs are intentionally short and can't be accurately tested at 1" compression due to coil bind. Modern cars run under 23mm stroke in the front, which aligns with our design to push the spring right to very edge but not go over it.
  • Each batch is labeled with the average spring rate (lb/in) after passing in-house testing using a precision $3k Chatillon digital spring rate tester.
  • Made from raw, uncoated ASTM-spec spring wire for consistency and factory-like polish potential.
  • Laser etched on the side of one of the wire ends: large dash = 5 dots, small dash = 1 dot.

Tips and Recommended Starting Points

  • Having trouble hitting the right ride height—either too low or too high? You can always adjust spring tension by swapping out your spring cups for different lengths. A common misconception is that changing the spring cup height affects spring rate, but it doesn't. For example, if you're running the B7 0mm spring cup up front and trying to achieve a 13mm ride height with our springs, you'll probably find your spring collars sitting almost all the way down on the shock body. Switching them to the 5mm spring cup will move your spring collars back up closer to the top, giving you more adjustment range without altering the spring's performance.
